Artificial stone is a much better product than concrete. It is made by crushing and grinding natural stone and then re-constituting it, in a mould, with cement mortar. Sandstones, marbles and lime stones are well suited to the re-constitution process. Artificial stone tends to be more porous than concrete and it doesn't have the bedding planes, or imperfections, of a natural stone but nor does it have the 'fault lines' which can result in ex-foliation or splitting on fault lines.
