An often overlooked aspect of water gardening and pond keeping is the hose connections and pipe fittings used. Choosing the right fittings will help to reduce flow restrictions and improve the performance of your pond equipment thereby reducing electricity costs and other hassles associated with choosing badly fitting parts.
Flexible hose or tubing is a better option for ease of installation and maneuverability than solid or rigid tubing for the vast majority of us pond keepers, unless of course you have a large koi pond system that necessitates proper pipe rack design and layout.
Where ever possible always use the widest diameter tubing possible as this will yet again reduce the impact of flow restrictions (friction losses) between the pond equipment: pump, filter, UVC etc. Using short lengths of hose will reduce the impact of pressure loss and maintain a higher flow rate. It is also a good idea to use opaque piping and not see through hose as this will stop green water from growing on the inside of the tube ... This again helps to reduce flow loss.
