How To Prevent Your Backyard Pond From Icing Over In Winter

The single best way to ensure that you are able to maintain an ambient temperature for your pond fish is to use a pond water heater. Many models are thermostatically controlled.

The vast majority of pond water heaters usually come as a submersible pond heater.

A cheaper to operate and buy option is the floating pond deicer. As the name suggests floating pond deicers float on the surface of your pond and melt a hole in the pond ice cover.

This is critically important to the health and well being of all pond fish and other pond inhabitants as it allows gases to escape during the freezing winter months.

Submergible pond heaters heat a much larger area and are situated inside the pond water. Floating pond deicers are the lower cost option and the easiest to install.
